Pick "+ FinSteam Aurora 81 R14S Gas Heater" at checkout and your flagship cube ships with engineered ventilation built for gas + a bundled FinSteam Aurora 81 R14S gas heater package — ready to light on a UK propane bottle the day it lands. Steam & Oak is the only UK retailer offering this. No electrician, no chimney, no fire to tend. Hot in 15 minutes, turn a dial. The Aurora 81 is the only CE-marked electricity-free sauna gas heater on the European market (FinSteam's stated claim).

An electric sauna's shelf price isn't the price to your first löyly. A 6.8–9 kW electric heater needs its own dedicated circuit, wired by a qualified electrician and signed off under Part P — typically £800–£1,500, plus the wait to get one booked. The FinSteam gas heater connects to a UK propane bottle outside, like a patio heater: no dedicated circuit, no electrician for portable use, and it's hot on the day it arrives.
| Electric (from) | Gas (FinSteam) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cabin + heater | £7,295 | £9,290 |
| Electrician — dedicated circuit + Part P | £800–£1,500 | £0 |
| Ready to use | After wiring is booked + signed off | Day of delivery |
| Real total | £8,095–£8,795 | £9,290 |
The ~£2,000 gap on the shelf narrows to roughly £500–£1,200 once the electrician is in the sum — and the gas sauna doesn't wait on a sparky's diary. (Portable use needs no Gas Safe engineer; a fixed install does. A standard UK 13 kg Calor propane bottle runs the heater for a dozen-plus sessions.)
The gas variant ships with wooden louvre vents at the FinSteam-specified sizes built in: intake ≥350 cm² low next to the heater (fresh air from outside), exhaust ≥250 cm² high in the opposite corner (discharged to outside). FinSteam exclude plastic disc / twist valves. Vent + heater certified together under EU Reg 2016/426. Electric/wood-fired variants ship with the appropriate vent set for that heat type.
Aurora R14S standalone retail £2,395 — gas variant bundles at £9,290 inc VAT. More on the Aurora 81.

Our flagship cube — 3.35m external + 0.4m porch + 0.75m enclosed anteroom + L-shaped two-level alder benches. The premium 6-person UK outdoor sauna with everything dialled in: standing-height cube format, proper anteroom for changing + cool-down, two-level corner bench layout, 44mm walls + 8mm glass + 24-month warranty + heater of your choice.
Gas (Aurora R14S): ~£1.50-£2.00 per session, 15-20 min heat-up. Electric (Harvia 6.8kW): £1.75-£2.25 per 90-min session, 30 min heat-up. Electric 9kW: £2.00-£2.50 per session. Wood (Etna 12): £2-£4 hardwood logs. See our full running-cost breakdown.
Two-level benches matter for shared sessions — different users have different heat tolerance, and the lower bench (cooler + closer to floor airflow) is genuinely usable for kids, older users, or anyone who finds 90°C bench-top intense. The L-shape adds corner seating that lets people face each other during conversation rather than sit shoulder-to-shoulder. Against the typical 6-person cube at this price point, this cabin ships with L-shaped two-level alder benches plus a 0.75m enclosed anteroom, where most rivals offer single-level benches and no anteroom.
Sauna shell, base beams, wooden panels (pre-cut + numbered), stainless steel tension bands, alder benches with backrests, 8mm tempered glass door, ventilation valve + grill (vent type matches selected heater), stainless steel floor drainage grid, bitumen roof shingles, fastener kit + assembly manual. Selected heater + stones included. 24-month warranty.
